How can I put into words the amount of thankfulness I have for Shannon? My experience with her was amazing! I knew before I became pregnant that I wanted a natural birth, and that I needed to put the best support team in place for me to accomplish that. I had my husband (God bless men!) and my two best friends (who are nurses). I just needed another person with birthing experience to round out my team. I talked to my doctor about doula’s and if she had recommendations. She suggested I give Shannon a call, so I did . I knew after the first time I met her with my husband that she would be a good fit for us. Along the way she would check in with me to see how I was doing, and met up with us to talk about our goals, fears, and needs during the labor and birth process. I ended up being 2 weeks overdue. During that time she came to my house to calm my fears and anxiety about potentially being induced, and do some accupressure points to try to get labor going. My doctor and I decided to induce my labor via breaking my water. The morning I was to be induced I was nervous, but Shannon helped relax and calm me with her presence and laughter. I was in labor for 14 hours and during that time Shannon was wonderful at stepping in to help alleviate my pain and help my husband with relaxation techniques. She is great about knowing when to step in to help and when to step back and allow the birth process to happen. I was so happy that my labor and delivery was as close to perfect as I could have imagined, and a lot of that was attained with the help of Shannon. My son is now 2 months old and she still checks in with me to see how I and the little man are doing. Being a doula is a hard and tiring job, but I believe that it is a very vital role for the labor and delivery process. When the time comes around for the birth of baby #2 you can be sure that Shannon will be a part of that tiny little miracle as well!
