Shannon Strubhar CD(DONA)
I was first inspired to become a doula when my sister asked me to be with her during the birth of my niece in 1995. She told me I was a “natural” support and should look into doing it as a career. It was always in my mind but I took several years to raise my own children and decide that it was, indeed, something I would like to do. In 2010, I pursued formal training through DONA (Doulas of North America) and have received my official certification. Being certified is not required to practice as a doula but I wanted to acquire the certification to assure my clients that I will be held accountable to DONA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. I attend births at hospitals as well as home births.
I believe that every family deserves a supportive environment in which to welcome their new baby into the world. My desire is to help every family have a positive and memorable birth experience – however you define that. My goal as a doula is to help provide support for birthing parents and families while remaining respectful of the very personal nature of birth. My hope is to compliment your birth support team, not replace them.
I am a wife to a wonderfully supportive husband and a mom to two grown children.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Psalm 127:3 (NAS)
